Custom Cabinets and Trim Work: Why Do Final Costs Change So Often?

I’ve noticed that whenever a project involves custom cabinets, built-ins, or detailed trim, the budget seems to shift more than expected. Small design tweaks, wood species changes, hardware upgrades, and even finishing details can push numbers higher without much warning.

That’s why I’ve started paying more attention to getting accurate millwork estimating services before locking anything in. It feels like the only way to really compare bids properly and understand where the money is going on custom carpentry.

For anyone who’s been through a kitchen remodel or office fit-out with a lot of millwork, what ended up driving the cost the most? Was it materials, shop drawings revisions, or installation time?
